Salinas is a bigger city than Hollister, and it has a bit of everything. There are older houses close to downtown, blocks of postwar tract homes and newer subdivisions toward the edges, plus offices and warehouses whose owners call about drafty work space. We work it the same way we work Prunedale and Watsonville, just with more traffic on the drive in.
The age of the house decides most of what we find. Older ones usually have a few inches of tired fill, old can lights and gaps nobody ever sealed, while newer ones have more insulation but still leak around the hatch, the ducts and the room over the garage.
What moves the price and the schedule
The size of your attic and how hard it is to reach set the starting point, and a hatch in a closet full of boxes counts as hard. Next is what's already up there. A few inches of clean fill can usually stay and get topped up, but old insulation that's soaked or full of droppings has to come out first, and that adds labor and time. Foam costs more than loose fill, and the number of gaps to seal changes the work too. The schedule turns on removal, whether a permit is needed and when our crew is free. I give you your own number after I've been in the attic.
What we check before insulating anything
Before anything goes in, I want to know what's wrong up there, because fresh fill over a problem just hides it. We seal the gaps around can lights, pipes and the hatch first, so the new insulation isn't fighting a draft, and we keep the eave vents clear so the attic can breathe. Then we blow in loose fill evenly, out to the edges where it's usually thinnest. Foam seals and insulates in one go but costs more, so I usually recommend sealing and topping up unless your ductwork runs through the attic. Our crew does the install, and I check the work before we call it done. For the rest of the house, see home insulation.
Licenses and permits for Salinas jobs
The Contractors State License Board licenses and regulates contractors in California, and we're fully licensed and insured. The board does let unlicensed people take on small jobs, but the limits are tight, and the questions below spell them out. Permits depend on where the house sits. A Salinas address inside city limits goes through the city, while a house just outside may fall under the county, so I check with the right building office for each address. When the job calls for a permit, we handle it. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.
